2021 Ballon d'Or Ranking: Messi Wins Seventh Title
Lionel Messi has won the 2021 Ballon d'Or, his seventh such award.
The Argentine forward beat out Robert Lewandowski and Jorginho to claim the prize, which is awarded to the best player in the world. Messi had a stellar year, leading Barcelona to the Copa del Rey title and inspiring Argentina to victory in the Copa America.
Lewandowski finished second in the voting, while Jorginho was third.
The Bayern Munich striker had a record-breaking season, scoring 41 goals in the Bundesliga. Jorginho, meanwhile, was a key member of the Chelsea team that won the Champions League and the UEFA Super Cup.
Messi's victory extends his lead as the player with the most Ballon d'Or awards. He now has one more than Cristiano Ronaldo, who has won the award five times.
The Ballon d'Or is one of the most prestigious awards in football. It is voted on by a panel of journalists from around the world.
