Bank VTB client personal data becomes publicly accessible
Financial information and personal data of more than 100 thousand VTB bank clients got into a public network.
This was discovered by information security expert Bob Diachenko. According to him, he managed to gain access to the database with personal data using a simple search engine query.
The database contains the names, passport data, financial information and even biometric images of clients.
The bank confirmed the fact of the leak.
According to a VTB representative, an internal investigation is currently underway. The bank has already closed access to the database and reported the incident to Roskomnadzor and the Central Bank.
VTB also recommended that customers who have discovered unauthorized access to their personal data contact the bank's hotline or visit the nearest branch.
Experts recommend customers to change their passwords and be wary of phishing emails.
According to information security expert Alexei Lukatsky, cybercriminals can use the leaked data for identity theft, extortion, or phishing attacks.
Lukatsky advises users to change their passwords, especially if they use the same password for multiple accounts.
It is also recommended to be vigilant and not click on links in suspicious emails, as cybercriminals can use this method to gain access to personal data.
