Batting key to Nepal’s success against United States
Nepal’s batting performance was the key factor in their victory over the United States in the ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 match on Sunday.
Nepal posted a total of 208 for 9 in their 50 overs, with Kushal Bhurtel top-scoring with 62. The United States were then bowled out for just 109 in 29.2 overs, with Sandeep Lamichhane taking 4 for 16.
Nepal’s victory was their second in the tournament, and it moved them up to third place in the standings. The United States, meanwhile, remained in fifth place.
Nepal’s batting performance was impressive, with all of their top seven batsmen reaching double figures. Bhurtel was the standout performer, but he received good support from Aasif Sheikh (36), Dipendra Singh Airee (31), and Rohit Paudel (29).
The United States bowlers struggled to contain Nepal’s batsmen, with only Nisarg Patel (2 for 30) and Saurabh Netravalkar (2 for 45) taking multiple wickets.
Nepal’s bowlers then put in a disciplined performance to restrict the United States batsmen. Lamichhane was the pick of the bowlers, but he received good support from Sompal Kami (2 for 21) and Karan KC (2 for 29).
The United States batsmen never really got going, and they were eventually bowled out for just 109. Only Steven Taylor (23) and Monank Patel (22) reached double figures.
Nepal’s victory was a well-deserved one, and it will give them confidence ahead of their next match against Oman on Tuesday. The United States, meanwhile, will need to improve their batting performance if they want to challenge for a place in the top four.
