Bayern seek to regain DFB Pokal status
Bayern Munich host Mainz in the DFB Pokal quarter-finals on Wednesday, looking to regain their status as the dominant force in German cup football.
Bayern have been knocked out of the DFB Pokal in the semi-finals or quarter-finals of the past three seasons, while Mainz have never reached the last four of the competition.
Bayern will be looking to make a statement in this year's DFB Pokal, having been knocked out of the Champions League in the quarter-finals by Villarreal.
The German giants have won the DFB Pokal 20 times, more than any other club, but their last triumph came in 2019.
Mainz, meanwhile, have never won a major trophy and their best performance in the DFB Pokal came in 2009 when they reached the semi-finals.
The match will be played at the Allianz Arena in Munich, with kick-off at 20:45 CET.
