Bronny James Scores First NBA Points in Debut
Bronny James, the son of NBA icon LeBron James, made his NBA G League debut on Tuesday night, scoring his first points in official NBA competition.
James, who plays for the Cleveland Charge, the G League affiliate of the Cleveland Cavaliers, entered the game in the second quarter and quickly made an impact. He scored his first points on a driving layup off an assist from Sharife Cooper. James finished the game with 6 points on 2-of-6 shooting, along with 2 rebounds and 2 assists in 17 minutes of action.
The Charge went on to lose the game 112-94 to the Lakeland Magic, but James' debut was a historic moment for the 20-year-old. He is the first player in NBA G League history to have a father who is also an NBA All-Star.
James' performance drew praise from his teammates and coaches. "He's a special player," said Charge coach Mike Gerrity. "He's got a lot of talent, and he's only going to get better." James' father, LeBron, also took to social media to congratulate his son on his debut. "Proud of you, son!" LeBron tweeted.
Bronny James is hoping to play in the NBA alongside his father, who is set to become a free agent this summer. The two have already played together in the Drew League, a pro-am league in Los Angeles, and have expressed their desire to play together in the NBA.
According to sources, the Lakers are considered the favorites to sign LeBron James if he leaves the Cavaliers. If LeBron James does sign with the Lakers, it would open the door for Bronny James to join the team as well.
Bronny James is considered one of the top prospects in the 2024 NBA Draft. He is a 6'3" point guard who is known for his athleticism, playmaking ability, and shooting stroke.
James is expected to play a significant role for the Charge this season. He will have the opportunity to learn from some of the best players in the G League, including former NBA All-Star Isaiah Thomas.
James' debut was a historic moment for the young player. He is now one step closer to achieving his dream of playing in the NBA alongside his father.
