Celta Vigo rest six key players for Copa del Rey tie
Eduardo Coudet makes wholesale changes for the first leg of their last-16 tie against Ibiza
Celta Vigo coach Eduardo Coudet has made wholesale changes to his team for the first leg of their Copa del Rey last-16 tie against Ibiza.
The likes of Iago Aspas, Denis Suarez and Brais Mendez have all been rested for the game, with Coudet keen to give his fringe players a chance to impress.
Celta Vigo are currently 11th in La Liga, and Coudet will be hoping that his team can use the Copa del Rey as a springboard to climb the table.
Ibiza will be no pushovers, however. They are currently top of the Segunda Division B, and they will be looking to cause an upset against Celta Vigo.
The first leg of the tie will be played at the Estadio Municipal de Can Misses on Wednesday, January 11.
The second leg will be played at the Estadio de Balaidos on Wednesday, January 18.
Celta Vigo will be hoping to reach the quarter-finals of the Copa del Rey for the first time since 2019.
They have won the competition twice, in 1923 and 1928.
Ibiza have never reached the quarter-finals of the Copa del Rey.
They have only reached the last 16 once before, in 2016.
Celta Vigo will be the favorites to win the tie, but Ibiza will be hoping to cause an upset.
The second leg is likely to be decisive, with Celta Vigo holding a slender advantage after the first leg.
The winners of the tie will face either Real Betis or Osasuna in the quarter-finals.
