Chelsea F.C. and Newcastle United F.C. Reach Agreement for Enzo Maresca
Enzo Maresca to join Newcastle United F.C. on loan
Chelsea F.C. and Newcastle United F.C. have agreed to a loan deal for goalkeeper Enzo Maresca.
The 20-year-old Italian shot-stopper will spend the remainder of the 2022/23 season at St. James' Park.
Maresca has been with Chelsea since 2021, but has yet to make a first-team appearance for the Blues.
He has been a regular for Chelsea's development squad, and has also represented Italy at youth level.
Newcastle are in need of a new goalkeeper after Martin Dubravka joined Manchester United on loan.
Maresca is expected to compete with Nick Pope for a starting spot.
The loan deal is subject to Maresca passing a medical and obtaining a work permit.
What does this mean for Chelsea?
Maresca's loan move to Newcastle is a sign that he is not yet ready to challenge for a first-team place at Chelsea.
The Blues have a number of experienced goalkeepers in their squad, including Edouard Mendy, Kepa Arrizabalaga, and Marcus Bettinelli.
Maresca's loan move will give him the opportunity to gain some first-team experience and continue his development.
What does this mean for Newcastle?
The signing of Maresca is a good move for Newcastle.
The Magpies are in need of a new goalkeeper, and Maresca is a promising young player with a lot of potential.
He is expected to compete with Nick Pope for a starting spot, and could help Newcastle challenge for a top-half finish in the Premier League.
