Blues assistant manager admits Blues were lucky to beat winless Newcastle
‘We have a lot of work to do’
Chelsea assistant manager Enzo Maresca has admitted he is concerned by his side's performance despite beating Newcastle 1-0 at St James' Park on Saturday.
The Blues were outplayed for large parts of the game and were fortunate to come away with all three points.
"We were lucky to win today," Maresca said after the game. "Newcastle were the better team and we were fortunate to nick it at the end."
"We need to improve a lot. We're not playing well at the moment and we're not creating enough chances."
"We have a lot of work to do."
Chelsea's win was their second in the Premier League this season, but they have now won just three of their last nine matches in all competitions.
The Blues are currently ninth in the table, six points behind leaders Liverpool.
Maresca knows that Chelsea need to improve their form quickly if they want to challenge for the title.
"We have to start playing better," he said. "We have a lot of quality in our squad, but we're not showing it at the moment."
"We need to find our form quickly or we'll be left behind."
