Blues’ assistant coach says it was ‘important’ to bounce back from defeat to Man City

Maresca praised Chelsea's response to going behind early on

Chelsea assistant coach Enzo Maresca has hailed his side’s “unbelievable” performance in their 2-1 win over Fulham in the Premier League on Saturday.

The Blues went behind early on to a goal from Aleksandar Mitrovic, but they responded well and equalised through Mason Mount before half-time.

Kai Havertz then scored the winner in the second half to secure three important points for Chelsea.

Maresca was pleased with his side’s performance, particularly their ability to stay calm and composed after conceding the early goal.

“It was important to bounce back from the defeat to Manchester City,” Maresca said. “We knew it would be a tough game against Fulham, but we showed great character and quality to get the win.

“We conceded an early goal, but we didn’t panic. We stayed calm and composed, and we played our way back into the game.”

Maresca also praised Chelsea’s attacking play, which he said was “unbelievable” at times.

“We created so many chances today,” Maresca said. “We could have easily scored more goals. Our attacking play was unbelievable at times.

“We’re delighted with the win. It’s a big three points for us.”

Chelsea will now turn their attention to their Champions League clash with Real Madrid on Wednesday.

The Blues will be looking to overturn a 3-1 deficit from the first leg at Stamford Bridge.

Maresca is confident that Chelsea can get the job done.

“We know it will be a tough game, but we believe in ourselves,” Maresca said. “We’re going to go to Madrid and give it our all.

“We’re Chelsea. We never give up.”
