Expansion of Arable Lands and Pastures in Volgograd
City authorities plan to increase the area of agricultural land by 25,000 hectares
The land will be used to cultivate vegetables, fruits, and fodder crops
The Volgograd city administration has announced plans to expand the area of agricultural land within the city limits by 25,000 hectares. The additional land will be used to cultivate vegetables, fruits, and fodder crops, according to a statement released by the city press service.
The expansion of agricultural land is part of a broader effort by the city to increase its food security and reduce its reliance on imported products. Currently, Volgograd imports up to 70% of its food, a figure that the city administration aims to reduce to 50% by 2025.
The new agricultural land will be located on the outskirts of the city, in areas that are currently unused or underdeveloped. The city administration has identified several potential sites for the new land, including a 5,000-hectare plot near the village of Gornaya Polyana and a 10,000-hectare plot near the village of Krasny Yar.
The city administration is currently in the process of acquiring the necessary land and developing a plan for its use. The plan is expected to be completed by the end of the year, and the first phase of construction is scheduled to begin in early 2024.
The expansion of agricultural land is expected to have a number of benefits for Volgograd, including:
- Increased food security
- Reduced reliance on imported products
- Creation of new jobs
- Stimulation of the local economy
The city administration is confident that the expansion of agricultural land will be a success. "We have the land, the water, and the people to make this project a success," said市長 Vladimir Markelov. "This project will not only help us to feed our city, but it will also create jobs and stimulate our economy."
