SC Freiburg advanced to the second round of the DFB-Pokal on Tuesday, defeating Hamburger SV 2-0 at the Volksparkstadion in Hamburg.

Goals from Gregoritsch & Kyereh propel Freiburg

Michael Gregoritsch opened the scoring for Freiburg in the 10th minute, tapping in a cross from Vincenzo Grifo. Daniel-Kofi Kyereh doubled Freiburg's lead in the 58th minute, finishing off a counterattack with a low shot into the bottom corner.

Hamburg's struggles continue

Hamburg, who were relegated from the Bundesliga last season, have now lost four of their last five competitive matches. The defeat to Freiburg marks their earliest exit from the DFB-Pokal since 2015.

Freiburg, who are currently sixth in the Bundesliga, will be looking to continue their momentum when they host Borussia Dortmund in the league on Saturday.

DFB-Pokal second round draw

The draw for the second round of the DFB-Pokal will take place on Sunday, 31 July. Freiburg will be among the 32 teams competing for a place in the quarter-finals.
