“It’s just awful”: Eyewitness reveals details of Cherkessk gas explosion

The explosion occurred in a five-story building in the city of Cherkessk, the capital of the Karachay-Cherkess Republic in southern Russia.

According to preliminary information, the explosion was caused by a gas leak. The incident resulted in the collapse of one of the building’s entrances and damaged several apartments.

One eyewitness, who lives in a neighboring building, described the scene as “just awful.” She said she heard a loud bang and felt her building shake. When she looked outside, she saw smoke and debris flying through the air.

“I saw people running out of the building, screaming and crying,” she said. “It was just awful.”

Another eyewitness, who was walking by the building at the time of the explosion, said he saw a large fireball erupt from the building.

“It was like something out of a movie,” he said. “I’ve never seen anything like it before.”

The explosion is being investigated by the authorities. No casualties have been reported so far, but several people have been injured.
