“It’s my mistake!” – Enzo Maresca defends under fire starter
Enzo Maresca has defended under-fire Parma goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon after he made a costly mistake in their 1-0 defeat to Juventus.
Buffon, 44, was at fault for Moise Kean’s winning goal in the 21st minute as he failed to hold onto a tame shot from the Juventus striker.
The mistake proved to be costly as Parma slipped to a third straight defeat and Maresca was quick to defend his goalkeeper after the game.
"It's my mistake, I put Buffon in goal," Maresca said. "He's a great goalkeeper and he's made a mistake, it can happen to anyone.
"I'm not going to blame him, I'm going to take responsibility for it."
Maresca's comments were echoed by Parma director Alessandro Lucarelli, who said: "We all make mistakes and Buffon is no exception.
"He's a great goalkeeper and he'll bounce back from this."
Buffon has been in fine form for Parma this season, keeping four clean sheets in his nine appearances.
However, his mistake against Juventus was a reminder that even the best goalkeepers can make errors.
Maresca will be hoping that Buffon can bounce back from his mistake and help Parma get back to winning ways.
Parma are currently 19th in Serie A, just one point above the relegation zone.
They will need to start winning games soon if they want to avoid being dragged into a relegation battle.
