Nagelsmann speaks about personnel, expectations and Bayern’s opponents

FC Bayern head coach Julian Nagelsmann spoke to the media ahead of Bayern’s DFB Cup match against FSV Mainz 05 on Wednesday evening.

The Bayern boss discussed team news, the expectations for the match, and Bayern’s opponents.

Nagelsmann confirmed that Thomas Müller and Manuel Neuer will miss the match through injury.

“Thomas has a small muscle fibre tear,” Nagelsmann said. “He trained yesterday and felt pain afterwards. We don’t want to take any risks.”

Neuer is still recovering from shoulder surgery.

Nagelsmann said he expects a tough match against Mainz.

“Mainz are a good team,” Nagelsmann said. “They’re well-coached and they have a lot of quality in their squad.”

“We’ll need to be at our best to beat them.”

Nagelsmann said he is impressed with Mainz’s form this season.

“They’ve started the season very well,” Nagelsmann said. “They’re a team that is always dangerous going forward.”

“We’ll need to be careful not to give them too much space.”

Bayern will be looking to continue their good form when they face Mainz in the DFB Cup on Wednesday evening.

The Bavarians are the favourites to win the match, but they will need to be at their best to beat a Mainz side that is in good form.
