NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman released the following statement on the passing of Johnny Gaudreau:

"The National Hockey League mourns the tragic loss of Johnny Gaudreau. Johnny was a beloved player and a true gentleman of the game. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, teammates, and the entire hockey community."

Gaudreau, 27, passed away on August 16, 2023, in a car accident. He was a rising star in the NHL, having won the Calder Trophy as the league's Rookie of the Year in 2014–15.

Gaudreau played for the Calgary Flames, Nashville Predators, and Columbus Blue Jackets during his NHL career. He was a five-time All-Star and helped lead the Flames to the Stanley Cup Final in 2019.
