Perez vows to fight for Mexico City GP win next season
Red Bull driver Sergio Perez has vowed to fight for victory at next year's Mexico City Grand Prix, after missing out on the podium this season.
The Mexican driver was hoping to secure a strong result in front of his home crowd at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez, but a collision with George Russell on the opening lap left him with a damaged car and unable to challenge for the win.
Despite the disappointment, Perez is determined to come back stronger next year and challenge for what would be his first victory on home soil.
"I will fight for the victory next year," Perez said. "I want to win in front of my home crowd. It's a special race for me, and I want to give them something to cheer about."
Perez admitted that he was disappointed not to be able to challenge for the win this year, but he vowed to learn from his mistakes and come back stronger next season.
"I had a good start, but then I got hit by Russell," Perez said. "It damaged my car, and I couldn't challenge for the win. But I will learn from this and come back stronger next year."
Perez's teammate, Max Verstappen, went on to win the race, giving Red Bull a 1-2 finish.
"It was a great result for the team," Perez said. "Max did a great job. I'm happy for him and the team."
Perez is now fourth in the drivers' standings, 16 points behind Verstappen. He has just two races remaining to close the gap and move up to third.
