Saraland shooting suspect arrested, charged with murder
Saraland, AL. --
A 38-year-old Saraland man has been arrested and charged with murder in the shooting death of a 31-year-old man early Monday, authorities said.
The suspect, identified as Marvin Marquez Powe, was taken into custody Monday afternoon following a brief manhunt that ended in a heavily wooded area off of Ideal Drive, said Saraland Police Chief Jim Lentine.
Police were called to the 100 block of Ideal Drive at approximately 1:50 a.m. Monday on a report of a shooting. When officers arrived, they found a man suffering from a gunshot wound to the head.
The victim, identified as Jermaine Rashad Johnson, was pronounced dead at the scene. He was a Mobile resident.
Investigators believe that Powe and Johnson were involved in a verbal altercation that escalated into a physical altercation, Lentine said. A gun was produced during the altercation, and Johnson was shot at least once.
Powe fled the scene on foot after the shooting. He was apprehended by police a short time later in a wooded area off of Ideal Drive.
Powe was charged with murder and is being held in the Mobile County Metro Jail. His bond has been set at $150,000.
The investigation is ongoing, and no further details are available at this time.
