Saraland Resident Pronounced Dead After Engaging in Shootout with Police
Police Officers Uninjured During the Exchange of Gunfire
Saraland Police have released the name of the man killed in an officer-involved shooting on Monday, June 6th. The deceased has been identified as 32-year-old Saraland resident, Joseph Green.
According to Saraland Police Chief Greg Mims, officers responded to a call of a suspicious person in the area of Celeste Road around 10:30 p.m. Upon arrival, officers encountered Green, who was armed with a handgun. Green allegedly fled from officers on foot and a short pursuit ensued.
During the pursuit, Green turned and fired at the pursuing officers. The officers returned fire, striking Green multiple times. Green was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
None of the officers involved in the shooting were injured. The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency's State Bureau of Investigation has been called in to investigate the incident.
