Severe Thunderstorm Watch issued for 16 northern Missouri counties
National Weather Service issues advisory for parts of the state
A Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been issued for 16 northern Missouri counties until 10 p.m. CDT this evening, according to the National Weather Service in Kansas City.
The following counties are included in the watch:
- Adair
- Atchison
- Carroll
- Chariton
- Clark
- Daviess
- Dekalb
- Grundy
- Harrison
- Livingston
- Linn
- Macon
- Mercer
- Nodaway
- Putnam
- Schuyler
The NWS is urging residents in the affected areas to be prepared for severe weather, including damaging winds, hail, and heavy rain. The watch does not mean that severe weather is imminent, but that conditions are favorable for it to develop.
What to do during a Severe Thunderstorm Watch
If you are in an area that is under a Severe Thunderstorm Watch, the NWS recommends that you:
- Stay informed about the weather by listening to local radio or television stations or by checking the NWS website.
- Be prepared to take shelter if a severe thunderstorm warning is issued.
- Secure loose objects outdoors, such as patio furniture or grills.
- Bring pets indoors.
- Avoid contact with water, as it can conduct electricity.
