FORT WORTH, Texas - TCU goalkeeper Sarah LaPoint reached a major milestone in her collegiate career on Friday night, making her 200th career save in the Horned Frogs' 3-0 victory over Central Michigan.
LaPoint, a senior from St. Albert, Alberta, made seven saves in the shutout, including a key stop on a penalty kick in the second half. The shutout was her fifth of the season and the 16th of her career.
With the win, TCU improved to 5-2-1 on the season, while Central Michigan fell to 2-5-1.
LaPoint's stellar performance leads TCU to victory
LaPoint was a force in goal for TCU, making several key saves to keep the Chippewas off the scoreboard.
* In the first half, she made a diving save to her left to deny CMU forward Morgan Greenwald a goal. * In the second half, she made a spectacular save on a penalty kick by CMU midfielder Sara Kete. * Her seven saves on the night were a season-high.LaPoint's performance was even more impressive considering that she was playing against a Central Michigan team that entered the game averaging over two goals per game.
TCU offense provides support for LaPoint
The TCU offense provided plenty of support for LaPoint, scoring three goals on the night.
* Forward Messiah Bright scored her team-leading fourth goal of the season in the first half. * Midfielder Chaylyn Hubbard added a goal in the second half. * Forward Yazmeen Ryan capped the scoring with a goal in the 89th minute.The Horned Frogs outshot the Chippewas 16-11 and had a 7-3 advantage in corner kicks.
