Team News: Setford makes debut and Saliba returns
Setford makes Arsenal debut in pre-season win
18-year-old defender Brooke Norton-Cuffy made his first-team debut for Arsenal in their pre-season friendly win over Ipswich Town on Saturday. The right-back, who joined the club from Chelsea in 2020, came on as a substitute in the second half and impressed with his attacking play.
Manager Mikel Arteta was pleased with Norton-Cuffy's performance and said that he is a player with a lot of potential. "He's a very talented player," Arteta said. "He's still very young, but he's shown that he can play at this level. He's a good defender, he's good on the ball, he can create chances, and he can score goals. We're really excited about him."
Saliba returns from loan spell
William Saliba also made his return to Arsenal in the win over Ipswich Town. The 21-year-old defender spent last season on loan at Marseille, where he impressed with his performances. He helped Marseille win the Coupe de France and was named the club's Player of the Season.
Saliba is now back at Arsenal and is expected to play a big role in the team's defense this season. He is a strong and physical defender who is good at reading the game. He is also comfortable on the ball and can play out from the back.
Arteta is delighted to have Saliba back at the club. "He's a very important player for us," Arteta said. "He's a young player with a lot of potential. He's already shown that he can play at the highest level. We're really excited to have him back."
