MSU Season Superlatives: Preseason Staff Picks
The Michigan State Spartans are just a few weeks away from kicking off the 2023 campaign.
With so many storylines to follow, we asked the staff at Spartan Avenue to give their picks for the team's superlatives this season.
Here are their picks:
- Most Valuable Player: Payton Thorne
- Offensive Player of the Year: Keon Coleman
- Defensive Player of the Year: Jacoby Windmon
- Newcomer of the Year: Daniel Scott
- Biggest Surprise: Germie Bernard
- Biggest Disappointment: Jalen Berger
Thorne is the unquestioned leader of this offense and will need to have a big season for the Spartans to be successful.
Coleman is a rising star and could be poised for a breakout season in 2023.
Windmon is a dynamic pass rusher who could be one of the best in the Big Ten this season.
Scott is a talented wide receiver who could make an immediate impact for the Spartans.
Bernard is a talented cornerback who could emerge as a star this season.
Berger is a talented running back who has yet to live up to his potential.
These are just a few of the superlatives that the Spartans could earn this season. With so much talent on the roster, there are plenty of players who could have breakout seasons.
The Spartans will open the season on September 2nd against Western Michigan. They will then face Akron, Washington, and Minnesota before opening Big Ten play against Ohio State on September 23rd.
Michigan State is hoping to have a successful season in 2023. With so much talent on the roster, there is no reason why they can't compete for a Big Ten championship.
