Tributes pour in as Friends star Teri Garr dies
The actress, best known for her role as Phoebe Buffay's mother, has died at the age of 77.
Garr's death was confirmed by her publicist, who said she had been battling Alzheimer's disease for several years.
Garr was born in Lakewood, Ohio, in 1944. She began her acting career in the early 1970s, appearing in films such as "Tootsie" and "Young Frankenstein." She went on to star in a number of television shows, including "Friends," "Mork & Mindy," and "Cheers."
Garr was nominated for an Academy Award for her supporting role in the 1982 film "Tootsie." She also won a Golden Globe Award for her performance in the 1984 film "Mr. Mom."
Garr's death has been met with an outpouring of grief from her friends and colleagues. Jennifer Aniston, who played Phoebe Buffay on "Friends," said in a statement that Garr was "a wonderful actress and an amazing person."
"She will be dearly missed," Aniston said.
Courteney Cox, who played Monica Geller on "Friends," said that Garr was "a true friend and a joy to work with."
"She will be deeply missed," Cox said.
Lisa Kudrow, who played Phoebe Buffay's twin sister Ursula on "Friends," said that Garr was "a wonderful actress and a beautiful person."
"She will be deeply missed," Kudrow said.
Garr is survived by her husband, John O'Neil, and her two children, Molly and Michael.
