Landmark Gas Deal Between Turkmenistan and Türkiye
Turkmenistan and Türkiye have signed a landmark gas deal that will see Turkmenistan supply natural gas to Türkiye via the Trans-Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline (TANAP).
The agreement was signed in the Turkmen capital of Ashgabat on Saturday by the two countries' presidents, Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov and Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
The deal is expected to boost Türkiye's energy security and help it reduce its reliance on Russian gas.
Turkmenistan is the fourth-largest natural gas producer in the world and has the world's fourth-largest natural gas reserves.
Türkiye is the second-largest consumer of natural gas in Europe and is heavily dependent on imports.
The TANAP pipeline, which runs from Azerbaijan to Türkiye, was completed in 2018 and has the capacity to transport 16 billion cubic meters of gas per year.
The new deal will allow Turkmenistan to export gas to Türkiye via TANAP and other pipelines.
The deal is a significant development in the global energy landscape and is expected to have a major impact on the energy security of both Turkmenistan and Türkiye.
