Smoke seen for miles; nearby homes evacuated

FREDERICKTOWN, Mo. (KFVS) - Fire crews are battling a large commercial fire in Fredericktown, Missouri. The fire broke out at a business on West Main Street around 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 15.

Thick, black smoke could be seen for miles.

Firefighters from multiple agencies are on scene. They are using ladder trucks to pour water on the flames from above.

Nearby homes evacuated

As a precaution, several nearby homes have been evacuated. The Fredericktown R-I School District has also been placed on lockdown.

There is no word yet on any injuries.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
